Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Concordia (N.Y.) College men's soccer team scored four times in the first 36 minutes, two seconds, and went on to a 4-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Felician University on Tuesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Junior forward Nabeel Qawasmi (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) registered two goals and an assist for Concordia (8-4, 7-2 CACC), the CACC's first-place team. The Clippers also received a goal and an assist from senior midfielder Javier Alvarez Vispo (La Coruna, Spain/Alpine).
Concordia set the tone early in the match, taking the lead for good at the 3:29 mark. Quwasmi pushed a short pass down the middle to graduate student Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College), who finished into the upper right of the net to take over the CACC lead in points.
Quawasmi scored in the 19th and 32nd minutes, and Concordia concluded the scoring at the 36:02 mark when a persistent Vispo had a shot saved by Felician senior goalkeeper Jasur Tursunboyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan/Tashkent International). Vispo was the first player to the rebound and put a second shot past Tursunboyev and into the goal.
Felician owned a 16-15 shot advantage, but put only four shots on goal for the day. Freshman Chris McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y./Preparatory Academy for Writers) topped the Golden Falcons (3-8-2, 2-5-1) with four attempts. The hosts also came up empty on seven corner kicks, including six in the second half.
Oakley had six shots and keeper Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain/Cristo Rey) made four saves in 86 minutes for Concordia.
Felician freshman keeper Joe Sartori (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) made his collegiate debut in relief of Tursunboyev, stopping one shot in 21 scoreless minutes.
Felician will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts Holy Family University on Saturday at approximately 8 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
