Griffin Men Break Felician's Heart WIth Overtime Goal

Box Score

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Chestnut Hill College scored with three minutes, 23 seconds, remaining in regulation, then tallied again in the eighth minute of extra time to earn a come-from-behind 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Felician University on Saturday night at Victory Field #1.

The pair of late Griffin scores reversed the fortunes of the two sides in the CACC playoff race. Chestnut Hill (5-9, 4-7 CACC) vaulted into ninth place, one point behind Philadelphia University for the eighth and final berth in the 2016 conference tournament with one league game remaining. Felician fell into 11th place.

Felician (4-10-2, 3-7-1) had snapped a 1-1 tie when junior Charlie Macaskill (London, England) took advantage of a Griffin turnover in its defensive third to score with 18:44 to play. The goal came just two minutes after CHC goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) had preserved the tie with consecutive saves during a three-shot Golden Falcon flurry.

Down the stretch of regulation, the Griffins got off four shots, but all were off target. Then, a free kick was served into the 18-yard box and banged around several sets of feet before a strike by Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) was good for the equalizer.

On the game-winning goal, Gray chipped a ball over a defender to an open Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.), who finished with one touch at 97:04.

Casaletto had opened the scoring in the seventh minute, but Felician drew even on Martin Williams' (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fifth goal of the season at 30:28. Macaskill led all players with six shots, while Casaletto got off five for CHC, with the game-winner giving it a 16-15 edge for the night.

Jackson was credited with five saves, including one in overtime. Felician received three saves from senior Jasur Tursunboyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).

The Golden Falcons finish 2016 by traveling to Orangeburg, N.Y., to face Dominican College on Tuesday.
