Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician University turned a pair of first-half corner kicks into goals and held on for a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Junior Charlie Macaskill (London, England/Burlington Danes Academy) picked up a goal and an assist for Felician (3-6-2).
Both Golden Falcon goals came in the latter stages of the first half, and both were set up by corner kicks from the right side by sophomore defender Jovan Poggi (Lyndhurst, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep). To put Felician on the scoreboard, Poggi launched a kick to Macaskill on the far post. Macaskill volleyed the ball to the middle of the six-yard box, where he found the foot of senior Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) with 13 minutes, six seconds left in the period.
The hosts struck again just 3:19 later. Macaskill leapt and made solid header contact with Poggi's offering from the corner for his first marker in a Golden Falcon uniform. Poggi recorded the first multi-point game of his career.
East Stroudsburg (5-4-1) cut the deficit in half in the 39th minute when Christian Bukowski (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) played a ball ahead that freed teammate Brandon Levano (Allentown, Pa./Whitehall) on the left flank. Levano sent a line drive shot into the upper right corner of net for his fifth goal of 2016.
The Golden Falcons held off a furious Warrior attack after halftime. ESU out-shot Felician, 13-2 in the second period, and had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Felician junior goalkeeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) came up with five saves in the period and finished the night with eight stops.
ESU amassed an 18-7 shot advantage for the night. Warrior senior Andrew McGinley (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford) led all players with five attempts.
The Golden Falcons have won consecutive games for the first time since Sept. 1 and 5, 2012.
Felician returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play when it entertains Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
