Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Felician University men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-0 non-conference decision to host Mercy College on a warm Saturday afternoon on the Mercy campus.
Mercy (3-0-1) had the better of play in the early stages of the contest, and was able to cash in on its chances in the 27th minute. Maverick junior Ericson Penate (Reseda, Calif.) collected a through-ball from teammate Lucca Lacerda (Passos, Brazil) and put a shot into the top right corner of the net.
Mercy padded its lead with just over four minutes left in the first half. The Mavericks were awarded a penalty kick, which Felician goalkeeper Jasur Tursunboyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) stopped. But Tursunboyev was unable to control the rebound, and the Mavericks' Gonzalo Prando (Jefferson Valley, N.Y.), who took the penalty, pushed the ball past him for a 2-0 lead for the hosts.
Mercy ended the first half with a 12-0 shot advantage. Felician sophomore midfielder Dean Wright (Dublin, Ireland) got off two shots in the first three minutes of period two, but both were blocked by the Maverick defense. After the Golden Falcons' Martin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sent a shot over the crossbar in the 55th minute, the visitors were unable to mount many serious offensive threats.
Mercy ended the day with advantages of 18-3 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks. Lacerda led all players with five shot attempts. Tursunboyev was credited with eight saves.
