Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell University came up with an equalizing goal with 14 seconds left in regulation time and went on to a 2-2 tie with visiting Felician University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field.
All of the game's scoring took place in the final 30 minutes of regulation. Caldwell (2-2-1, 1-0-1 CACC) was the first team on the scoreboard when it cashed in on one of its seven second-half corner kick opportunities. Kyle Hill's (New Milford, N.J.) kick sailed into a sea of bodies and caromed out to Patrick Grey (Auckland, New Zealand), who was able to finish to the left half of the net in the 62nd minute.
Felician sophomore Kenny Monfort (Spring Valley, N.Y.) wound his way into the 18-yard box and tied the game with 17:50 left to play. The Golden Falcons took the lead with 8:40 showing on the clock when a cross by Martin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) found the foot of fellow senior Corey Telfer (North Brunswick, N.J.), who finished from the middle of the box.
The game-tying sequence for the Cougars began with a free kick by goalkeeper Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) down the middle of the field. The ball ended up in the air in front of the Felician goal, and Darren Appanah (Enfield, England) put a head on it and got it past Felician goalkeeper Jasur Tursunboyev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).
The Cougars out-shot Felician, 9-0, during the two overtime periods. Tursunboyev made four saves to preserve the draw, and another Caldwell offering, by Luca Cacciottolo (Boonton, N.J.), hit the crossbar. Caldwell ended the day with advantages of 22-10 in shots and 10-1 in corner kicks.
Tursunboyev finished with seven saves. Meister stopped four shots.
Felician (0-3-2, 0-0-1) returns home to take on Georgian Court University on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
