Box Score BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Felician University junior midfielder Maxi Ojeda (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored with five minutes, 53 seconds, remaining in regulation time, and the Golden Falcons held on for a 2-2 draw with host Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer action on Tuesday night at Foley Field.
Bloomfield (7-2-1, 5-1-1 CACC) entered the night in second-place in the 13-team CACC and ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' poll.
Ojeda scored both Golden Falcon goals. His successful free kick with 11:23 gone by in the match represented the only scoring of the first half.
The Bears went ahead with a pair of goal just under 10 minutes apart in the middle stages of the second period. An opportunistic Warwick Sterling (Lauderhill, Fla.) was the first player to the ball when teammate Regsan Watkins' (Cape Town, South Africa) shot bounded off a goalpost, and stuffed it in the net in the 64th minute.
Watkins gave his team the lead with 16:02 to play, collecting a pass from junior Bryan Medina (Dover, N.J.) and placing a shot into the upper left corner.
For a stretch, it appeared that score would hold, as the Bears ran fresh legs onto the field and limited the Golden Falcons' chances. The Golden Falcons got off only six shot attempts in regulation, and used only 13 players on the night, as compared 18 for Bloomfield.
But when Ojeda put a shot on fame in the 80th minute, a ball saved by Bloomfield senior goalkeeper Jovan Stanojkovic (Pancevo, Serbia), it showed the Golden Falcons were not done attacking. Four minutes later, in the middle of a crowded penalty area, Ojeda put a ball bast Stanjkovic to gain the equalizer. Felician sophomore Christopher McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on the play.
The Bears out-shot Felician, 9-1, in the two overtime periods, including 6-0 in the initial 10-minute extra session. Golden Falcon senior keeper John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) made four of his seven saves on the night after regulation time as the visitors held on to earn a point in the standings.
Bloomfield ended up with statistical edges of 19-7 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks. Watkins led all players with seven shot attempts. Stanojkovic made three saves.
The teams were whistled for a combined 46 fouls (28-18 Bloomfield). Eight yellow cards were issued (5-3 Bloomfield), all after halftime.
Felician steps out of CACC play for the final time this season to host Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
