Box Score NEWARK, Del. – Felician University yielded seven second-half goals in a 10-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer loss to host Wilmington (Del.) University on Sunday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The match was the first in 2017 CACC play for both sides.
Sophomore forward Lorne Bickley (St. Helier, Jersey) set a Wilmington record by scoring four goals. Sophomore forward Christopher McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y.) picked up the lone score for Felician (1-3, 0-1 CACC).
Bickley, the 2016 CACC Rookie of the Year, completed a natural hat trick by scoring three times in a span of nine minutes, 17 seconds, to stake the Wildcats to a 3-0 bulge. He found the back of the net in the 19th, 24th, and 28th minutes. McLaughlin worked his way around a defender for an unassisted goal with 10:20 left in the period, but the hosts carried the 3-1 edge into the intermission.
Bickley was freed in the middle of the pitch and put in the record-setting score in the 58th minute, setting the stage for the Wilmington offensive explosion. Junior Abdul Mansaray (London, England) totaled a goal and two assists for the Wildcats, and teammate Adrian Coverdale (Camden, Del.) picked up a goal and an assist in just 15 minutes of action.
Wilmington (1-1-2, 1-0) out-shot the Golden Falcons 20-6 in the second half and 26-9 for the day. McLaughin led Felician with four shot attempts, while Bickley topped all players with six.
Felican used three goalkeepers in the game. Freshman George Hernandez (Passaic, N.J.) suffered the loss in his first collegiate start. Sophomore Joe Sartori (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) made a career-high four saves, and senior Marco Barahona (Newark, N.J.) made his first appearance between the posts for Felician, earning one save in 15 minutes. Barahona played in two matches as a field player as a freshman.
Junior keeper Vinny Tasca (Audubon, Pa.) logged 62 minutes to secure the victory for Wilmington.
Felician allowed its most goals in a game since a 12-2 loss to Lindsey Wilson College in the 2001 NAIA national tournament.
The Golden Falcons play their next three matches at home, beginning with a CACC affair on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Dominican (N.Y.) College at the Lyndhurst (N.J.) Recreation Complex.
