Box Score MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Millersville University used a 32nd-minute own goal to jump start a 3-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on a cold, rainy Wednesday night at Pucillo Field.
The early stages of the match were evenly played. Millersville junior Chase Flickinger (Spring Grove, Pa.) hit a goalpost with a shot in the the 12th minute, while all four of Felician's first-half shot attempts came in the opening 18 minutes.
The Marauders steadily improved their offensive pressure, and it paid off just over 31 minutes into the contest. Senior Ahmed Qaisi (Lancaster, Pa.) crossed a ball into the 18-yard box, and in an attempt to shut the play down, a Felician defender inadvertently knocked the ball past Golden Falcon sophomore goalkeeper Joe Sartori (Wood-Ridge, N.J.).
Marauder sophomore Jacob Gosselin (Westminster, Md.) knocked home a rebound in the 38th minute to allow the hosts to lead, 2-0, at halftime. Any hope of a Felician comeback was thwarted when Millersville's McClain Smith (Ocean View, Del.) scored his first marker of the season with 24:02 to play.
Millersville owned statistical advantages of 19-9 in shots (12-4 first half) and 6-3 in corner kicks (5-1). Christopher McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y.) and Kevin Valdivia (Hawthorne, N.J.) took three shots each to lead Felician, while Millersville's Flickinger and Gosselin shared game-high honors with four.
Sartori suffered the loss in his first collegiate start. He and freshman George Hernandez (Paterson, N.J.) split four saves. Marauder netminder Darian McCauley (York, Pa.) made four saves for the shutout.
