Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Goldey-Beacom College scored 38 seconds into the second overtime period to earn a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over host Felician University on Saturday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The game was the final event of Felician's Homecoming Saturday.
On the game-winning play, GBC junior Ethan Maguire (Sydney, Australia/Mount Carmel) played a ball into the 18-yard box to the foot of classmate Nicholas Ladeira (Johannesburg, South Africa/Bidvest). The pass freed Ladeira for a low diagonal shot which beat Felician freshman goalkeeper Alex Kiwowicz (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) to his left.
Kiwowicz was otherwise solid during his first collegiate start as a keeper. He faced 13 shots and made four saves and was assisted by an active Golden Falcon back line.
Goldey-Beacom (9-3, 6-0 CACC) entered the day in first place in the CACC and ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' poll. The Lightning claimed their seventh consecutive victory.
Both sides had a strong second-half scoring opportunity denied by piping. Felician's Chris McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y./Preparatory Academy for Writers) saw a shot bound off the right goal post just 30 seconds into period two. In the 82nd minute, an offering from straight on from GBC's Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Colombo Britanico) appeared ticketed for the back of the net but instead hit the crossbar.
The Golden Falcons (2-8, 1-5) competed for the final 18 minutes with only eight field players after seeing two men sent off with 7:36 left in regulation.
Goldey-Beacom held a 13-8 advantage in shots (4-1 in extra time). Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil/Berkeley College) took three shots for the Lightning, as did McLaughlin for Felician. GBC junior keeper Cole Lewis (Middletown, Del./Caravel) made two saves as his team posted the clean sheet.
The teams were whistled for a combined 41 fouls (27-41 GBC) and booked a total of eight times.
