First-Place Golden Falcons Set Program Record For CACC Wins

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's volleyball team extended its school-record win streak to eight matches with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host University of the Sciences on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena.

Felician (11-12, 9-1) set the program record for CACC victories. The Golden Falcons were 8-11 in conference play in 2018. In passing the halfway point of this year's league schedule, Felician extended its lead in the CACC North Division standings to three games over both Bloomfield College and Caldwell University.

Freshman setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) helped foster a balanced offense for the visitors, totaling 31 assists and eight digs. Felician sophomore libero Sierra Gallagher (Honolulu, Hawaii) paced the back-row defense with a match-high 25 digs and tied her career best of five aces.

The Golden Falcons began the match auspiciously, jumping out to a 10-3 Set 1 lead. Senior opposite hitter Kali Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J.) had three kills in the spurt. Felician's lead grew as high as 19-10 before it closed out the set.

Set 2 was even as late as 18-18. A block by Jazlyn Pipkins (Paris, Texas) and a Vodrazka kill gave Felician the lead for good. Two more late kills by Vodrazka prevented a Devil comeback before junior middle blocker Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii) put an attack down to end the set.

The Golden Falcons recovered from an early 9-2 Set 3 deficit to prevent USciences (8-12, 5-5) from extending the match. Trailing 20-19, Felician captured the next six rallies, including two kills and a block from Asbery, to earn the victory.

Asbery led Felician with 10 kills and four blocks. Vodrazka amassed nine kills and sophomore Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.) finished with eight kills and six digs. The Devils received 17 kills, seven digs and three blocks from sophomore middle Natalia Velez (Carolina, Puerto Rico).

Felician defeated USciences in Philadelphia for the first time in eight all-time true road meetings against the Devils.

Felician, which has won its last six home matches dating back to last season, hosts three contests in five days next week, beginning with a 7 p.m. CACC tilt on Tuesday against Dominican (N.Y.) College.
