Duffort, McLaughlin Lead Men's Soccer To Breakout 5-1 Win

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Freshman Diego Duffort (Madrid, Spain/San Patricio) scored three goals with an assist and senior Chris McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y./Preparatory Academy for Writers) notched two goals and two assists to lead Felician University to a 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Nyack College on Tuesday night under a light rain at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.

Felician (3-10, 2-7 CACC) matched its season-high offensive output, having defeated Shepherd University, 5-2, on Sept. 14. Duffort, who had two goals on the season entering the day, produced the Golden Falcons' second hat trick of 2019, with McLaughlin having accomplished the feat at Shepherd.

Duffort opened the scoring five minutes, 31 seconds, into the match. Nyack could not find the net despite a 7-4 first-half shot advantage, and the 1-0 score held up into halftime.

As the second period neared its midway point, the hosts clung to their one-goal advantage. With exactly 26 minutes left in regulation time, Duffort struck again to give Felician breathing room. McLaughlin and Duffort tallied twice in a 31-second span during the 79th and 80th minutes, and McLaughlin added an exclamation point with a goal with 6:29 to play.

Nyack (1-10-2, 1-7) avoided the shutout when sophomore Javier Fernandez (Villavicioas de Odon, Spain/Alcala) slipped a ball past the goal line with 0:44 showing on the clock. It was Fernandez' eighth shot of the night.

Felician senior Estuardo Borja (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) and junior transfer Guillermo Sanchez Duque (Malaga, Spain/IES Mayorazgo) were also credited with assists in the contest.

The Warriors were unable to take advantage of statistical edges of 17-13 in shots and 3-0 in corner kicks. Felician freshman goalkeeper Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame-Green Pond [Pa.]) earned the victory with four saves.

Felician snapped a six-game losing streak. Duffort's first goal ended a 407-minute scoreless stretch for the Golden Falcons.

The Golden Falcons were beginning a four-game homestand. They entertain the Jefferson Rams on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
