Men's Soccer Shut Down By Chargers; Makeup With Post Will End Regular Season

Box Score

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Felician University came up on the short end of a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer decision to host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday afternoon at the Orangetown Soccer Complex.

While Felician (6-8-1, 5-5 CACC) still has one more CACC match remaining, a home makeup with Post University on Thursday, Tuesday's result locked the seeding for both teams for next week's conference championship tournament. Dominican (9-5-2, 7-2-2) is the event's No. 3 seed, and the Golden Falcons will be seeded seventh.

The CACC playoffs will begin on Monday, November 8. Felician will face either Post or Wilmington (Del.) University, with its quarterfinal opponent to be determined by Thursday's result.

On Tuesday, the Chargers earned the victory by tallying twice in a span of 2 ½ minutes during the second half. Dominican junior Jhosep Tavar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) broke a scoreless tie with 19 minutes, 54 seconds left in regulation time, and classmate Ewan Gray (Middlesbrough, England) found the net with 17:26 to play to put the hosts in full control.

The sides departed an evenly played opening half scoreless. But the Chargers began to assert themselves after the intermission. Felician attempted only one shot in the second half and saw Dominican gain eight corner kick attempts. Their pressure paid off when Tavar was the first man to the rebound of a blocked shot and scored from 20 yards out.

Dominican finished with statistical edges of 13-5 in shots and 11-0 in corners. Felician senior goalkeeper George Hernandez (Paterson, N.J.) made three saves. His Charger counterpart, junior Lucas Silva Pereira (Divinopolis, Brazil), stopped three first-half shots for the clean sheet.

Post visits the Lyndhurst (N.J.) Recreation Complex at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles (8-5-1, 8-2) would be the CACC's top playoff seed with a victory.
