Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – Felician University erased a six-point deficit over the final two minutes, 39 seconds, to earn an 87-84 non-conference women's basketball victory over host Queens (N.Y.) College on Tuesday evening at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. Freshman guard Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla.) came off the Felician bench to lead all players with 21 points.
The Golden Falcons (1-4) received 19 points and a season-high 19 rebounds from sophomore swing player Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.). But Lee fouled out with 4:06 remaining in regulation time and her team trailing, 77-73. Down by that same margin, the visitors surrendered a putback layup to Queens sophomore Julia Debeatham (Menands, N.Y.) to fall behind, 82-76, at the 2:39 mark.
But Felician junior Catherine Lecop (Madrid, Spain) buried a three-point field goal on her team's next possession, and it jumpstarted a game-turning 9-0 run. The Golden Falcons obtained four consecutive defensive stops during the streak. A Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) layup at the 0:55 mark put the Golden Falcons ahead for good, and Mimmi Hahne (Sollentuna, Sweden) made a steal and set up Logan for a transition layup and an 85-82 edge at 0:23.
Lecop grabbed a pair of steals in the closing seconds and went 2 for 4 at the foul line to preserve the victory. She finished with 13 points, six assists and three takeaways.
Felician halted a 17-game losing streak overall and an eight-game road skid. Its last victory came on Feb. 22, 2020, at Concordia (N.Y.) College. The Golden Falcons were playing their fifth consecutive East Coast Conference opponent to begin the 2021-22 season.
Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (7-9 FG) registered 17 points and nine rebounds in 22 bench minutes for Queens (0-4). Andres scored 18 points and sophomore Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) added 10 points and five rebounds for Felician.
Felician survived a 56-39 rebounding disadvantage, in part by forcing 30 Knight turnovers.
Felician plays its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest of the season on Dec. 1 when it hosts Bloomfield College at 5:30 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
