Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Felician University junior guard Catherine Lecop (Madrid, Spain) scored a season-high 19 points, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by host Saint Anselm College, 73-63, in non-conference women's basketball action on Friday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
Saint Anselm (5-4) pulled away by outscoring Felician, 24-12, during the fourth period. Hawk senior guard Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) tallied 13 fourth-quarter points and concluded the night with 34 points and eight rebounds.
Lecop topped four Golden Falcon double-figure scorers. She was 7 for 11 from the field, and added four rebounds, five assists and four steals. Felician redshirt sophomore Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) collected 11 points and seven rebounds, and graduate student Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) and freshman Mimmi Hahne (Sollentuna, Sweden) netted 10 points apiece.
Felician (4-5) led, 24-9, after one quarter, and extended the spread to 29-11 following an Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) layup with seven minutes, 55 seconds, remaining until halftime. However, after Lecop's layup and free-throw at the 5:17 mark of the second, the Golden Falcons were held scoreless until the intermission, and Saint Anselm entered halftime trailing only 35-30.
The Hawks continued to chip away, and moved ahead for the first time since the opening minutes, 40-39, when Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) drained a three-point field goal with 4:59 left in the third period. The lead changed hands five more times before the quarter's closing buzzer sounded. Two late Lecop free throws allowed the visitors to enter the final 10 minutes ahead, 51-49.
Steinman scored the first five points of the fourth. Felician recovered and went back in front, 55-54, on two Lee free throws with 6:57 to play in regulation time. The Golden Falcons then went cold on offense, allowing Saint Anselm to take the lead for good on a successful Turco jump shot at the 5:49 mark. With her team ahead, 61-57, moments later, Steinman scored the next eight Hawk points to hold off a Golden Falcon comeback.
Turco finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. The Hawks outscored Felician, 19-7, at the foul line.
Felician remains in Manchester on Saturday to take on regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at 1:30 p.m.
