Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University accrued a 21-point halftime lead and went on to defeat visiting Felician University by that margin, 87-66, in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Athletic Center. Pace is ranked No. 3 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region media poll.
Graduate guard Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) scored a career-high 26 points and freshman guard Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla.) totaled 16 points and six rebounds in defeat for Felician (4-7). Graduate forward Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y.) topped five Pace double-figure scorers with 17 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Setters (9-1) never trailed on the day. The hosts were ahead, 20-10, after seven minutes of action and 29-16 at the end of the first period. The Setters gained full control by tallying the first seven points of period two. A late Schetter layup moved Pace ahead by 25 before consecutive Tiara Mahorn (Irvington, N.J.) baskets allowed Felician to close to a 52-31 deficit at halftime.
Andres netted 14 third-quarter points as Felician outscored the Setters, 23-13, for the period to pull to within 65-54. But the Golden Falcons never drew closer. Felician scored only four points during the first 7 ½ minutes of the fourth quarter, allowing the Setters to extend their lead and pull away unchallenged.
Mahorn scored eight points in seven minutes off the Golden Falcon bench. Felician senior guard Niaimani Marshall (Jersey City, N.J.) returned from injury to make her season debut and turned in six points and two blocks.
Pace shot 47 percent from the floor and held the Golden Falcons to a 39-percent figure. The hosts also owned 38-29 rebounding advantage. Naya Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) had 11 points and eight rebounds and Shanice Sinclair (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) added 10 points and nine boards to lead the Setters on the glass.
Felician went 2-7 during its non-league slate. The Golden Falcons are next in action on Dec. 30, when they host a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference affair against Caldwell University at 3:30 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
