Women's Basketball Knocks Off Regionally-Ranked Dominican, 77-75

Box Score

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Felician University recovered from an 18-point second-half deficit to earn a 77-75 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon on the Hennessy Center's Coach Baxter Court. Dominican (6-3, 1-1 CACC) is ranked No. 10 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region media poll.

Redshirt sophomore swing player Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) led Felician (3-4, 2-0) with 22 points and added nine rebounds. The Golden Falcons received 19 points in 20 bench minutes from freshman guard Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla.). Junior Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) (11 rebounds) and senior Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) (seven rebounds) totaled 14 points each for the Chargers.

Felician won for the third consecutive time following an 0-4 start. It is the first three-game winning streak for the Golden Falcons since Jan. 30 – Feb. 7, 2019. Felician also topped Dominican for the first time in the teams' last seven meetings.

The sides played to a 14-14 deadlock after one period. Dominican, however, closed the first half with a 15-2 run over the final 4 ½ minutes to carry a 39-26 edge into halftime. The Chargers took their largest lead, 47-29, following a Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) three-point field goal with 8:40 left in the third quarter.

The Golden Falcons responded with a 13-2 run, capped by a Mimmi Hahne (Sollentuna, Sweden) three-pointer, to pull to within seven of their hosts by the midway point of the third. The teams played evenly for the balance of the period, and Felican settled for a nine-point spread at the end of the third, 61-52, after Dominican's Maria Enrich Tasias (Odena, Spain) beat the buzzer with a layup.

As the game clock wound under four minutes, the visitors still trailed by the same nine-point margin. But Logan sparked a Golden Falcon comeback with conventional three-point plays on her team's next two possessions. A Logan shot from distance pulled Felician to within 73-71 at the 2:16 mark, and when Lee tied the game with another three-ball at 1:07, the result was determined at the foul line.

Felicain obtained a defensive stop, ran the shot clock down, and put the ball in Lee's hands. She was fouled at 0:19 and made one of two attempts. On the other end, Logan rebounded a Charger miss and the hosts were forced to foul at 0:03. Logan also split a pair at the line, leaving Dominican in contention. After her team advanced the ball out of a timeout, Domincan's Casey Carangelo (Thomaston, Conn.) drew a foul but her first attempt was errant. She missed the second one intentionally, but Tiara Mahorn (Irvington, N.J.) rebounded to secure the Golden Falcon victory.

Mahorn scored four points with 10 rebounds in 10 minutes. Hahne scored 10 points and junior Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) had nine points and nine boards for Felician, which scored 25 points off of 19 Charger turnovers.

Felician steps away from conference play to host the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
