Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University senior co-captain Destiny Esquilin (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) scored a career-high 13 points and sophomore teammate Rosie Arias (Linden, N.J./Linden) registered her first collegiate double-double, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by visiting Nyack College, 69-52, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.
Arias scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, both team highs. Sophomore Raquel Crooke-Losada (Madrid, Spain/Rowan College) led four double figure scorers for Nyack (3-5, 3-5 CACC) with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Esquilin was 5 for 5 from the field in the first half to surpass her previous career high of nine points achieved just the previous day. She helped Felician jump out to a 14-6 lead, though by the end of the first period, the Warriors had recovered and moved ahead, 19-18.
The second quarter saw Nyack lead by as many as five points. With two minutes, 57 seconds, remaining until halftime, a layup by Felician sophomore Damia Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Joseph) tied the score at 33-33. Both offenses went cold until a three-point field goal by Crooke-Losada sent the visitors into halftime with a three-point edge.
Nyack extended to a seven-point spread near the end of a closely-contested third-period, but a late three-pointer from Arias made the score 49-45 with 10 minutes remaining. However, that is as close as the hosts would come. Felician went scoreless for the first four minutes of the final quarter, allowing the Warriors to move ahead by 12. The Golden Falcons never cut their deficit to fewer than eight points for the rest of the game, and were outscored, 20-7, during the fourth period.
Freshman Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) scored 13 points off the Nyack bench. The Warriors caused 33 Felician turnovers, which they converted into 33 points. Freshman Sarah McSpadden (Melbourne, Australia/Box Hill SSC) scored nine points for Felician (0-7, 0-7).
Felician concludes its 2021 home schedule with a 3 p.m. tip versus Caldwell University on Tuesday. No spectators are allowed at CACC events this season; check www.caccnetwork.com for webstream details.
