Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – No. 7 seed Felician University was defeated by host Dominican (N.Y.) College, 80-57, during first-round action of the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Championship tournament on Tuesday evening on the Hennessy Center's Coach Baxter Court.
Sophomores Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) and Rosie Arias (Linden, N.J.) scored 14 points each for Felician (0-11), which saw the 25th season in program history come to an end. Lee also pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds, while Arias added seven boards.
No. 2 seed Dominican (10-1) advances to Thursday's semifinals, during which it will host No. 6 seed Nyack College. Junior guard Naabea-Janaan Assibey-Bonsu (Central Islip, N.Y.) topped a balanced Dominican boxscore with 12 points and six rebounds.
Felician was ahead for much of the first period. The Golden Falcons' largest lead came at 14-9 with four minutes, 18 seconds, left in the quarter following an Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) jump shot. But the Felician offense then went cold. The Chargers scored the game's next 16 points spanning the quarter break and never trailed again.
Dominican's Elle Nittinger (Waverly, N.Y.) made two free throws with 8:10 left until halftime to give her team a 27-16 lead, marking the last time the Golden Falcons were within a single-digit deficit. By intermission, the Chargers led, 39-22. The hosts were up, 64-32, after three periods, and led by as many as 35 points.
The game was the final one in the career of Felician senior co-captain Destiny Esquilin (Vineland, N.J.). A transfer from Cumberland County College, Esquilin played in 19 games as a Golden Falcon, including all but one this season. She had three points and two rebounds on Tuesday.
