Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University men's soccer played its Spring 2021 home opener on Saturday morning. The Golden Falcons came up on the short end of a 4-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference decision to Holy Family University at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame-Green Pond [Pa.]) made 10 saves for Felician. It is the third time in his career he has turned in a double-digit save game. Senior forward Mike Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had a goal and an assist for the Tigers.
Holy Family (1-1, 1-1 CACC) piled up first-half advantages of 11-1 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks. But the Tigers went into halftime clinding to a 1-0 lead, with Ficarra already having eight saves on his ledger. In the 28th minute, he stopped a Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm) shot from the right of the 18-yard box, but the rebound caromed back to Richmond, who put a second offering into the net to open the scoring.
The Tigers doubled their edge fewer than three minutes into the second half on a short Smith blast from in front. Meanwhile they kept the Golden Falcons from creating dangerous offensive opportunities. The visitors scored twice in the final 15 minutes and held Felician to six shot attempts, four by junior Leo Yang (Seoul, South Korea/Queen of Peace [N.J.]), on the day.
HFU keeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) made three saves for the clean sheet.
Felician next travels to Thomas Jefferson University for a 3 p.m. start on Tuesday in Philadelphia. Per CACC policy, no spectators are allowed at events hosted by conference members until further notice; check www.caccnetwork.com for webstream details.
