Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician University men's soccer team was outlasted by visiting Georgian Court University, 3-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Junior transfer Raul Abellan (Girona, Spain/IES Sobreques) scored for Felician.
Georgian Court (2-2, 2-2 CACC) had the better of play throughout much of the evening, eventually accumulating statistical advantages of 28-7 in shots and 18-0 in corner kicks. But the Golden Falcon defense, backed by sophomore goalkeeper Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J./Notre Dame-Green Pond), fended off many of the challenges and kept the match competitive throughout.
The Lions carried a 2-0 lead into halftime, scoring on a set piece in the 15th minute and cashing in again on their offensive pressure with a goal three minutes, two seconds, before halftime. In the 66th minute, Felician cut the deficit in half, as sophomore Julian DiLeo (Wayne, N.J./Paramus Catholic) picked up his first career point by setting up Abellan's marker.
GCU could not full exhale until 11:19 remained, when senior Louis Silva (Union, N.J/St. Benedict's Prep) came up with an unassisted tally to restore the two-goal advantage. Felician did not get off a shot for the balance of the contest. Silva finished with a goal and an assist.
Ficarra made a season-high 12 saves, the fourth double-digit effort of his career. Junior Denilson De Las Casas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) led Felician with three shots.
Felician (0-4, 0-4) concludes the regular season with a 1 p.m. home match on Wednesday against Nyack College. Per CACC policy, no spectators are allowed at events hosted by conference members until further notice; check www.caccnetwork.com for webstream details.Fel
