Box Score EASTON, Mass. – Playing away from home for the first time this season, the Felician University men's soccer team yielded a goal in each period and was defeated, 2-1, by host Stonehill College in non-conference action at Skyhawk Field. The teams were meeting for the first time in 11 years.
Senior Raul Abellan (Girona, Spain) notched the Felician marker with 26 minutes, 53 seconds, remaining in regulation time. The Golden Falcons, however, trailed, 2-0 at the time and could not find the equalizer.
The only goal of the first half came off the foot of Stonehill freshman midfielder Iago Luiz De Sousa-Vieira (Medford, Mass.), who collected his fifth of the season during the the 31st minute. The teams evenly split 10 shots during the period.
The tenor of the match changed shortly after the second-half whistle. The Skyhawks forced a turnover off the opening kickoff and sophomore Jacob Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) was freed 1 v. 1 with Felician senior goalkeeper George Hernandez (Paterson, N.J.). When Woznicki slipped a low shot past the Golden Falcon netminder, only 36 seconds had elapsed after the halftime break.
Abellan's score was set up by a cross from senior defender Alexandros Avraamides (Nicosia, Cyprus). Afterward, Felician remained active, getting off nine more shots. In fact, the visitors completed the day with a 19-15 shot advantage. Stonehill junior keeper Andrew Hammersley (Garden City, N.Y.) made seven saves, including five after halftime, to earn the victory.
Felician senior Leo Yang (Seoul, South Korea), the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, led all players with six shots. Hernandez was credited with four saves.
Felician is idle until Sept. 21, when it opens its CACC slate with a 1:30 p.m. road game against Nyack College in Secaucus, N.J.
