Box Score SECAUCUS, N.J. – The Felician University men's soccer team yielded a fourth-minute goal and was defeated by host Nyack College, 2-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Laurel Hill Park. The match was the 2021 CACC opener for both schools.
Felician (1-4, 0-1 CACC) got off 12 shots, six in each period, led by four from senior forward Leo Yang (Seoul, South Korea). The Golden Falcons put five shots on frame, all stopped by Nyack graduate goalkeeper Marco Roble (Lindau, Germany) for the clean sheet.
The Golden Falcons were forced to play from behind when Warrior graduate striker Antonio Ciardiello (Naples, Italy) found the back of the net just three minutes, 56 seconds, into the action. After catching a break when another Nyack attempt hit a goalpost during the 10th minute, Felician created some opportunities, most prominently on the counterattack, before the period-ending whistle. Nyack maintained the 1-0 edge at halftime, however.
The Warriors (2-4, 1-0) doubled their advantage on a Mitchell Reed (Toms River, N.J.) scored at the 61:09 mark. The hosts limited Felician's views at the net for the balance of the action.
Nyack held 15-12 shot advantage and the teams evenly split 12 corner kicks. Felician senior keeper George Hernandez (Paterson, N.J.) made six saves.
Felician hosts Holy Family University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Lyndhurst.
