Volleyball Tops Le Moyne To Split Pair At SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Felician University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches hosted by Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday afternoon at Stan Spirou Field House. The Golden Falcons topped Le Moyne College, 3-1, before concluding their four-match, two-day season-opening trip to Manchester with a 3-0 loss to the host Penmen.

Felician used a strong defensive effort to get past Le Moyne for the first time in program history. Set scores were 25-20, 17-25, 25-16, 25-19. The Golden Falcons held the Dolphins to a .117 attack percentage and owned advantages of 73-65 in digs and 7-6 in blocks. Le Moyne also committed 13 service errors.

Senior Maddie Sloan (Caldwell, N.J.) totaled 14 kills and 10 blocks and junior Hannah Chiswick (Pittstown, N.J.) added 10 kills to pace Felician (1-3). Junior Jelena Vucic (Smederevo, Serbia) finished with five kills and five blocks.

Golden Falcon setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) was also active as a passer, ending up with 22 assists, 17 digs and three kills. Senior libero Alondra Diaz Sanchez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) hoisted 26 digs with five assists and two aces. Junior Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich.) turned in 14 kills and 11 digs for Le Moyne (1-3)

After the one hour, 41 minute, victory, the Golden Falcons remained on the court to face the host Penmen. SNHU came away triumphant, 25-15, 25-14, 25-13. Felician took an early 5-2 Set 1 lead, but after breaking an 8-8 tie with three consecutive points, SNHU never trailed again at any point during the match. The Golden Falcons recovered from an early 5-0 Set 2 deficit for an 11-11 tie, only to see the hosts run off seven consecutive rallies. SNHU then took command of Set 13 with a 13-2 start.

The Golden Falcons were held to a .011 team attack percentage. Sloan had seven kills and six digs and Chiswick added five kills and nine digs. Penmen junior Juliana Pacini (Sao Paulo, Brazil) produced 11 kills and seven digs.

Felician plays its 2021 home opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Pace University. The match will be the first athletic event held in Felician's new Wellness and Recreation Center.
