Men's Basketball Survives Offensive Show At The 'Bobby Mo,' 95-91

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Felician University shot a season-high 59 percent from the floor and survived an NCAA-era program record 18 three-point field goals from the University of the Sciences to earn a 95-91 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over the host Devils on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena.

Junior swingman Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) made a tiebreaking three-pointer with one minute, 25 seconds, left in regulation time to finally give Felician (9-5, 4-2 CACC) the lead for good, 92-89. USciences had erased an early 17-point deficit as well as eight-point spread with six minutes remaining.

Felician junior swingman Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) was 10 for 14 from the floor. He topped the Golden Falcons with 23 points and added six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junior guard Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) (7-11 FG) and junior forward Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) (8-13 FG, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) tallied 18 points each for the visitors.

Devil senior Sean Simon (Philadelphia, Pa.) led all scorers with 32 points, canning nine threes in 14 attempts from distance. Graduate teammate Austin Kennedy (Medford, N.J.) (10-15 FG, 6-10 3FG) scored 26 points with five rebounds.

Felician led, 27-12, following a Nas Amos (Newark, N.J.) trey with slightly less than nine minutes gone by. The spread grew as large as 41-24 on a longball by Deiker Padrino (Bogota, N.J.) with 3:56 left in the first period. Still ahead by 15 after a Colon jump shot at the 1:46 mark, the Golden Falcons settled for a 47-41 halftime advantage.

The Devils took their only lead of the second half, 63-62, following two Jaakko Juusela (Helsinki, Finland) free throws with 12:14 showing on the second-half game clock. Felician answered with the next nine points, and was ahead by that same eight-point margin, 84-76, after a McRae layup and free throw at the 5:31 mark. The hosts, however, rallied again, knotting the game at 87-87 on a Simon shot from beyond the arc.

The sides traded successful jump shots before Amos found Jackson open for the tiebreaker from the right elbow. Kennedy followed with a bucket, but Davis' putback restored the three-point advantage. The Golden Falcons were finally able to obtain a defensive stop, and Amos rebounded and split a pair at the foul line at 0:11 to secure the victory.

Amos finished with 14 points, five assists, and no turnovers in 32 minutes. USciences junior Javon Gordon (Franklinville, N.J.) picked up the game's only double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, helping the hosts to a 32-26 edge on the boards. In defeat, the Devils shot 53 percent from the field, including 51 percent from three-point range.

Felician is on the road again on Wednesday, facing Bloomfield College in CACC action at 7:30 p.m.
