Defense Shines As Women's Basketball Wins At Bloomfield, 57-50

Box Score

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Felician University women's basketball team helped cause 39 opposition turnovers on its way to a 57-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Bloomfield College on Wednesday evening at BC Gymnasium. Felician completed a sweep of its two-game regular-season series with the Bears.

Freshman guard Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla.) led the Golden Falcons (6-9, 4-2 CACC) with 18 points and eight steals. Felician graduate guard Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) netted 13 points. Junior forward DaShanique Ruffin (Paterson, N.J.) paced Bloomfield with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Felician outscored the Bears, 13-3, over the final four minutes of the first half to take a 25-20 lead into the halftime break. All but two of the points in that spurt came from Logan. The Golden Falcons were up by as many as nine points during the third quarter but the hosts closed to within 36-34 by period's end.

The final period was closely contested. A successful jump shot by Bloomfield junior Tanazha Ford (Millville, N.J.) evened the score at 36-36 with 9:10 to play in regulation time, but on Felician's next possession, Logan drained a three-point field goal to put the visitors ahead to stay.

Felician's lead hovered between one and five points until the game clock wound under two minutes. With her team clinging to a 50-48 edge, Golden Falcon senior Niaimani Marshall (Jersey City, N.J.) scored on consecutive possessions to secure the victory.

Felician junior Catherine Lecop (Madrid, Spain) recorded eight points, four assists, and five steals. Marshall finished with seven points, and Golden Falcon junior Rosie Arias (Linden, N.J.) turned in season highs of six points and six rebounds. Felician survived a 47-32 rebounding disadvantage. Kamrin Babbs (Newark, N.J.) had eight points and eight boards off the bench for Bloomfield (3-15, 1-9).

Felician hosts Holy Family University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rutherford.
