Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Chestnut Hill College netted the final 10 points of the overtime period to earn a 61-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena. Felician redshirt sophomore Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) led all players with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Due to the annual NCAA Division II "dark" period, followed by three postponements due to health and safety protocols stemming from the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, the Golden Falcons (4-8, 2-1 CACC) were playing for the first time in three weeks.
Junior forward Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) led Chestnut Hill (10-3, 4-0) with 15 points. The Griffins received 13 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots off the bench from freshman post player Emily Chmiel (Doylestown, Pa.)
Regulation time ended with the score tied, 50-50, after Felician junior Tiara Mahorn (Irvington, N.J.) sank a three-point field goal with just under eight seconds remaining. After the visitors won the tap to begin the extra session, Lee buried another three-pointer. Mahorn converted two free throws with 2:55 left to put the visitors on top, 57-51 – Felician's largest edge since the second period.
But the Golden Falcons never scored again. After a Lane layup and a Griffin defensive stop, CHC tied the game on consecutive buckets by freshman Emily Sekerak (New Tripoli, Pa.). The Chestnut Hill defense held firm again, and Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) put the hosts head to stay with a pair of foul shots at 0:56. After missing on a tying attempt, Felician was forced to foul, and Lane secured the victory with two more shots at the stripe.
Mahorn and Niaimani Marshall (Jersey City, N.J.) totaled nine points each for Felician, which led, 18-13, after one period before settling for a 29-29 halftime tie. Kaitlyn Carter (Philadelphia, Pa.) played all 45 minutes for the hosts, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Felician hosts Wilmington (Del.) University in CACC action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J. The game is a makeup from a January 2 postponement.
