Box Score PHILADELPHIA, PA – Felician men's soccer team traveled to the No. 2 Seed , Holy Family, for the quarterfinals match of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Playoffs Tuesday night at Tiger Field. After a 1-0 Golden Falcon first half, the Tigers came back with 2 unanswered goals to advance to the semifinals.
In a physical match, Felician was able to outshoot Holy Family 15-10 in the night but couldn't find the equalizer to send the match to overtime or the lead goal to take the win. Alex Ramos (Almada, Portugal) led the team with 4 shots, Riccardo Benini (Bologna, Italy) tallied 3 shots, and Gianluca Trastulli (Rome, Italy) and Anthony Gomez (Lake Worth, FL) had 2.
Freshman, Matt Greenway (Birmingham, England) took his only shot of the game that was saved by the Tigers keeper but found the foot of Trastulli to run the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead halfway through the first. Ramos took the final shot of the half to extend the Golden Falcon lead but resulted high and out of play.
5-minutes into the second, the Tigers came out firing and tied up the match on a goal by Dakota Taylor, assisted by Sean Touey, 1-1. After a Benini and a Tiger attempt in the 58th-minute, both squads didn't get a shot off until 10-minutes later when Benini recorded his final shot and when Uche Santschi (Bern, Switzerland) made a save at the 71st-mark.
Later in the second, the Tigers had a free-kick opportunity. The host kicked the ball into the center of the goalbox to hit the hands of Santschi for a bad bounce back into the goal for the 2-1 lead. From there, Anthony Medina (San Sebastian, Spain) booted the last ball of the match, but no avail as it resulted high, giving Holy Family the 2-1 win.
With tonight's loss, the Golden Falcons finished off its season 7-6-6 overall and 4-4-4 in CACC play.
A quick look back at a few moments from the 2022 season. The men's soccer team became regionally ranked for the first time in 20 years after a 1-0 win over Bloomsburg on Sept. 10, made a back-to-back appearance in the CACC playoffs, and had two players receive an honorable mention to the 2nd All-Conference Team on Oct. 31 (Benini/Alvaro Martin Castedo (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain)) for the first time since 2018.
