Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's basketball team was defeated by visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College, 88-70, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday evening at Job Gymnasium. Felician settled for a split of its two-game CACC season series with the Chargers.
Sophomore swing player Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J./Irvington) led Felician (6-11, 4-4 CACC) with 21 points, nine rebounds and five steals. The Golden Falcons received 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots from sophomore forward Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada/J. Addison School). Freshman guard Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) topped Dominican with 20 points and six assists.
Felician, which never led, was unable to completely recover from a slow start to each half. The Chargers led, 19-5, just over 6 ½ minutes into the action, and completed the first period with a 27-12 edge following a buzzer-beating basket by Olivia Levy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland). The spread hovered between 10 and 17 points during the second quarter before Dominican took a 49-33 advantage into the halftime break.
The visitors began the third period with a 9-1 run to move ahead by 22. Ahead by that same margin, 69-47, with 1:46 to play in the third, Dominican tallied seven consecutive points before a pair of Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) free throws closed the gap to 76-49.
Felician outscored the Chargers, 18-3, to start the fourth quarter and pull within 12. A three-point field goal by Mills with 3:02 to play restored order for Dominican, which held the Golden Falcons to only three more points for the rest of the contest.
Dominican (10-10, 5-5) shot 47 percent from the floor. Charger graduate student Khay'la Lattimer (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Conception-Lodi) totaled 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, and junior teammate Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) finished with 15 points, five rebounds and 10 assists.
Andres contributed 13 points and senior Niaimani Marshall (Jersey City, N.J./Suffield Academy [Conn.]) scored a season-best 11 points for the Golden Falcons, who defeated the Chargers in Orangeburg, N.Y., on Dec. 4.
Felician plays a make-up game at Nyack College on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Jersey City, N.J. The game will be contested on the campus of New Jersey City University.
