Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University women's basketball team piled up a lopsided rebounding advantage on its way to a 74-56 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Felician earned a sweep of its two-game season series with the Warriors.
The victory allowed the Golden Falcons (11-13, 9-6) to secure a spot in the 2022 CACC Championship tournament. Felician moved 4 ½ games ahead of fifth-place Nyack in the CACC North Division, with the Warriors having three to play. Felician is still in the hunt for the division title, a half-game back of first-place Post University. The Golden Falcons have two games left and the Eagles three, including a season ending matchup against each other on Feb. 26 in Rutherford.
On Saturday, sophomore Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J./Irvington) paced Felician with 21 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots as her team outrebounded its guests, 57-22. Graduate student Kaitlyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) tallied 11 points and a season-high nine rebounds, and senior Niaimani Marshall (Jersey City, N.J./Suffield Academy [Conn.]) picked up seven points and seven caroms.
The Golden Falcons limited Nyack's second chances, grabbing 40 defensive rebounds as compared to the Warriors' seven offensive boards. Sophomore Natalie Chappotin (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) added to the hosts' dominance on the glass with six rebounds to go along with four points.
Two Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada/J. Addison School) free throws during the final minute allowed Felician to exit the first period with a 19-17 lead. The Golden Falcons then pulled away during period two, beginning the quarter with a 12-0 run over the first five minutes. The hosts were on top, 41-29, at halftime.
Nyack briefly sliced its deficit to nine following an Amani Levitan (Bloomfield, Conn./Bloomfield) jump shot with 7:58 left in the third period. But Lee scored the first nine points of an 11-2 Felician run that followed for a 54-38 edge at the 4:40 mark of the third. The Golden Falcons were on top, 62-46, at period's end.
Felician's largest spread, 68-48, came following an Andres layup with 7:28 to play.
Freshman Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla./East Bay) recorded 10 points and four assists for Felician, which shot 47 percent from the floor while holding the Warriors to a 31-percent figure. Senior Sarah Wilson (New Hope, Pa./New Hope Solebury) amassed 16 points and four steals and Levitan finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals for Nyack (5-14, 4-10).
Felician wrapped up a winning record in conference play for the first time in eight years. Its 11 overall victories are also its most since the 2013-14 campaign, when it was 12-15 and 10-9.
Felician hosts a makeup game against Caldwell University on Monday at 1 p.m. before completing the regular season by entertaining Post.
