Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Redshirt sophomore forward/guard Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) scored 22 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to lead Felician University to a 78-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over host Nyack College on Thursday night at the John J. Moore Athletic Center. Both teams were playing for the third time in five days.
Lee guided Felician (7-11, 5-4 CACC) to a 56-28 rebounding advantage on the night. Golden Falcon freshman guard Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla.) grabbed a season-best seven rebounds to go along with 15 points, and graduate guard Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) totaled 17 points and five boards.
Nyack (5-9, 4-5) led, 33-31, at halftime, but Felician took control of the contest during the third period. The visitors moved ahead to stay, 37-35, following two successful Lee free throws with just over a minute gone by, and extended to a 47-38 spread on a Logan layup with 4:43 left in the period. Felician was up by as many as 13 points before settling for a 56-46 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
Consecutive layups by Lee and Logan handed the Golden Falcons their largest lead, 62-48, with 8:25 to go in regulation time. Still ahead by 13 at the 1:08 mark, Felician held off a final Warrior rally. Three consecutive Golden Falcon turnovers allowed the hosts to crawl back to within 75-71, but with only 0:10 to play. Andres made 3 of 4 foul shots in that time to secure the victory.
Felician committed 28 turnovers while causing only 11. It offset that disparity by holding the Warriors to 34-percent shooting, outscoring Nyack, 28-15, at the foul line, and leveraging its rebounding edge. The Golden Falcons received 20 points off the bench, including nine by Sarah McSpadden (Melbourne, Australia) (five rebounds) and eight from Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada).
Senior Sarah Wilson (New Hope, Pa.) led Nyack with 18 points. Warrior junior Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y.) totaled 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and seven steals. Felician and Nyack conclude their CACC North Division regular-season series on Feb. 19 in Rutherford, N.J.
Felician is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Wilmington, Del., for a 1 p.m. tip at Goldey-Beacom College.
