Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. – Felician University pulled away during the fourth period to claim a 66-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones Center. Felician ended an eight-game losing streak to Goldey-Beacom, and defeated the Lightning in Wilmington for the first time since 2005.
With the win, the Golden Falcons (8-11, 6-4 CACC) moved into a tie for first place in the CACC North Division with seven league games remaining. Only two games separate first from fifth place in the division.
Sophomore swing player Briana Lee (Jersey City, N.J.) led all players with 19 points, 16 rebounds and four steals for Felician. Golden Falcon graduate guard Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, N.J.) scored 16 points. The Lightning received a 12-point, 11-rebound effort from junior forward Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.)
Lee's transition layup late in the second quarter gave Felician its largest lead of the game, 36-26, heading into halftime. But Goldey-Beacom erased its entire deficit during the third period, briefly moving ahead on two occasions. The visitors went back on top to stay, 43-42, on a pair of successful Courtney Logan (Riverview, Fla.) free throws with 2:02 left in the third, and Lee's three-point field goal on her team's final possession of the quarter extended the spread to 48-44.
GBC (7-13, 2-10) received a Julie McCarron (Wilmington, Del.) layup to start the fourth. Felician then held the Lightning to two points over the next five minutes while rebuilding a 10-point margin. Still behind, 61-52, at the 1:07 mark, the hosts saw Mickey Williams (Wambion, Australia) can a three-pointer, but the Golden Falcons went 5 for 6 at the foul line in the final 50 seconds to hold on.
Felician held GBC to 30-perecent shooting, including 4 of 24 (17 percent) from three-point range, and helped force 29 Lightning turnovers. Logan finished with 10 points and four steals and Sarah McSpadden (Melbourne, Australia) and Aisha Traore (Bronx, N.Y.) netted six points apiece for the Golden Falcons. GBC's Williams ended up with 12 points and five rebounds.
