Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Felician University surrendered two goals during a four-minute stretch midway through the second period and was defeated by host East Stroudsburg University, 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action on Thursday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The match represented the 2022 season opener for both schools.
Freshman Nathan Bradway (Wynnewood, Pa.) notched a goal and an assist and winning goalkeeper Brayden Evans (Bernville, Pa.) made seven saves for East Stroudsburg.
The visitors were the first team on the scoreboard. Felician sophomore transfer Pedro Souza Bolizan (Sao Paulo, Brazil) lofted a ball into the 18-yard box that found the head of teammate Alvaro Martin Castedo (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain). Martin Castedo, a junior defender, headed the ball diagonally past Evans just five minutes, five seconds, into the match for his first career goal.
The Golden Falcons' attack was hampered when a player was sent off for a hard foul during the 32nd minute of action. Despite the man disadvantage, Felician maintained the 1-0 edge into halftime, and held on until 26:40 remained in the contest. The Warriors broke through when Bradway ran onto a centering pass from Stefen Melekos (Churchville, Pa.) and finished.
The eventual game-winner came with 22:46 to play. Bradway's corner kick was headed into the net by ESU freshman Pieter Neerhof (Oosterbeek, Netherlands).
Felician was defeated despite compiling a 13-11 shot advantage. Sophomore transfer Uche Santschi (Bern, Switzerland) made his Golden Falcon debut in goal, stopping five attempts. The teams were booked a total of eight times – four apiece.
Felician plays its home opener on Sunday, entertaining D'Youville University at noon at Tryon Field in Rutherford.
