Box Score RUTHERFORD, NJ- Freshman Henry Calix (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) scored the first goal of his collegiate career against the Bloomsburg University Huskies, in non-conference play, Saturday night at Tryon Field, propelling the Golden Falcons to a 1-0 victory.
Bloomsburg (4-1) is ranked No. 5 in the most recent NCAA Division II Atlantic Region coaches' poll and received votes nationally.
In tonight's intense match-up, both teams remained scoreless in the first half. Riccardo Benini (Bologna, Italy) created Felician's chance with a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Husky keeper. Felician out-shot Bloomsburg 12-6 for the game.
In the 67th minute, Calix bolted on the right side of the field and netted the ball past the keeper into the left corner for the game's only goal. Anthony Gomez (Lake Worth, FL), Benini, Salvador Rang (Doorn, Netherlands), and Nicholas Gilbert (Pordenone, Italy) each later had shots on goal, but to no avail to increase the lead.
Felician goalkeeper Uche Santshi (Bern, Netherlands) earned the shutout with two saves.
This is the first win for Felician against Bloomsburg, who led the all-time series 3-0. The last time both teams met in 2016, the Huskies edged the Golden Falcons 1-0.
During tonight's game, each Golden Falcon player had gold shoelaces to participate in the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer campaign. All the donations collected will be turned over to the Go4TheGoal Foundation, a New Jersey-based nonprofit.
The Golden Falcons will return to Tyron Field on Sept. 14 for their first conference match-up of the season against Caldwell University at noon.
