Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's soccer team scored on a pair of second-half corner kicks 65 seconds apart to secure a 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Assumption University on Friday afternoon at Tryon Field. Felician improved its record to 2-1-0, its first such start after three games since 2012.
The Golden Falcons held Assumption (1-1-0) to four shot attempts. Felician sophomore goalkeeper Uche Santschi (Bern, Switzerland/WKS KV Bildung Bern), who played 81 minutes, needed to make just one save to earn the win.
The hosts broke through on the scoreboard during the 22nd minute. Junior Salvador Rang (Doorn, Netherlands/Revius) played a ball to his right which met sophomore Erick Aguiar (Praia, Cape Verde/Miraflores) in stride. Aguiar took two touches before finishing for his fifth goal of the season.
The Golden Falcons outshot Assumption, 8-1, during the first period, but had to successfully fend off six Greyhound corner kicks to enter halftime with the 1-0 edge. With 7 ½ minutes gone by in the second half, Felician gained a corner kick of its own, and Alex Ramos (Almada, Portugal/Daniel Sampaio) found the head of teammate Marcos de la Hoz (Madrid, Spain/Corazon de Maria) for a clean shot which reached the netting.
When play resumed, the Golden Falcons quicky regained possession and forced another corner, this time from the other side of the field. Rang played a short ball to Ramos, who connected with Gianluca Trastulli (Rome, Italy/San Glouani) for a volley inside the far post.
Felician finished with 14 shots, led by four from De la Hoz. Assumption starting keeper Francisco Teixeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Vera Cruz) made four saves in 59 minutes.
Felician continues its early-season non-league slate with a trip to Molloy College next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. whistle in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
