Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. – Felician University freshman opposite hitter Sara Betts (Goodyear, Ariz.) hit to a .536 attack percentage with a season-high 16 kills, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by the host College of Saint Rose, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-14) in non-conference women's volleyball action on Tuesday night at Nolan Gymnasium.
Saint Rose (5-3) came up with 15 aces on the night, including five by sophomore middle blocker Julia Cavalcanti (Vineyard, Utah) (seven kills). Betts made only one attack error in 28 attempts, and added an assist, two aces, four digs and two blocks.
Set 1 was tied on 12 occasions, the final time at 20-20 following a kill by Golden Falcon freshman Cailey Jones (Bel Air, Md.). The hosts won the next four rallies, however, and Felician was only able to save one set point before the Golden Knights closed out the win.
The second set saw Saint Rose recover from a 16-8 deficit, scoring nine consecutive points to take a brief lead. The score was tied six times down the stretch, but at 23-23, a Cavalcanti kill and a Felician attack error allowed the Golden Knights to come out on top.
The hosts pushed the momentum into Set 3, moving ahead, 8-3. The Golden Knights stretched to an 18-10 bulge before, ahead, 20-14, scoring the match's final five points.
Felician senior setter Miquela Martinez (Santa Fe, N.M.) collected 21 assists and a team-high nine digs.
The Golden Falcons open the season's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with a short trip to Caldwell University on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
