Box Score BRIDGEPORT, CT – Felician Women's Basketball dropped, 62-61, to the University of Bridgeport in an overtime Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up Tuesday night. Going into the fourth quarter, the Golden Falcons led the Purple Knights by 12 to eventually see that lead dwindle to send the game into extra minutes where Bridgeport would secure the win in the final seconds.
The Purple Knights led the Golden Falcons after the first quarter, but Briana Lee (Jersey City, NJ) netted a three in the second to tie the game at 13. Bridgeport was quick to take back the lead, 19-18 with 40-seconds left in the half until Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, NJ) sank another Golden Falcons three to be in front, 21-19.
Coming out of halftime, the Golden Falcons scored its highest quarter of the night with 23 fueled by the offensive edge of Andres, Lee, Aisha Traore (Bronx, NY), Niaimani Marshall (Jersey City, NJ), and Mimmi Hahne (Sollentuna, Sweden). With Felician having a one-point advantage, 33-32, Traore clinched a layup to spark a 9-0 run to go into the final stanza with a 44-32 lead.
The tables have turned in the fourth as Bridgeport posted 23-points of their own to edge Felician 55-52 with one-minute left in the game, but Andres bucketed her final trey (5-for-8) to reach extra minutes. Lee, Andres and Jamilah Hayles (Newark, NJ) pushed the Golden Falcons to a 61-59 lead to force the Purple Knights to call a time out with 4-seconds left to play. In just two-seconds, Bridgeport was able to score from behind the arc to take the lead 62-61 to run away with the win. In the night, there were a total of 8 ties and 7 lead changes.
Andres led all Golden Falcon scorers with 21-points and had 5 rebounds and 2 assists while Lee had 16-points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Catherine Lecop (Madrid, Spain) recorded 7 assists.
Felician Women's Basketball is now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the CACC as they look to get back into the winners circle as they host Saint Anslem on Thursday at 1:00pm at JJJ Gymnasium.
