Box Score RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician Women's Basketball went into the final quarter leading 52-49 to only experience an offensive surge by Chestnut Hill to ultimately fall, 72-62 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up Saturday afternoon.
By the end of the first quarter, the Griffins had a 22-17 advantage over the Golden Falcons. Natalie Chappotin (Elizabeth, NJ) ignited the Felician second quarter offense with a layup and Katelyn Andres (North Bergen, NJ) clinch a two-pointer of her own and a three to tie the game at 27. Aisha Traore (Bronx, NY) would then give the Golden Falcons its first lead of the afternoon with a lay-in, 29-27.
The Golden Falcons went into halftime with a six-point lead, 37-31, when Uzor Uchidiuno (Toronto, Canada) made a final second bucket. In the third, the score was tied and the lead was changed twice. For about a minute and a half, both teams were scoreless until Andres netted a three with 1:45 left in the quarter. A few seconds later, the Griffins secured two-points to trail by one, but Courtney Logan (Riverview, FL) put the Golden Falcons up by 3, 52-49, going to the final 10-minutes.
Midway through the fourth, with the score tied at 57, Chestnut Hill regained the lead after a made mid-range jump shot. Since then, the Golden Falcons were not able to surpass its opponent as they were outscored 23-10 in the quarter. Felician went eight minutes without a field goal and that put them into a 14-point deficit at the minute and a half mark. Mimmi Hahne (Sollentuna, Sweden) would make the final Felician shot of the day, but the hosts found themselves down by 10 when the final buzzer sounded.
Andres capped off the night with 19-points, three rebounds, and two steals while Logan had 12-points three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Traore and Chappotin both had seven rebounds apiece.
After the afternoon's result, the women's basketball team sits 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the CACC. The squad will take a week break and will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 28, to travel to Wilmington (Del.) for another CACC match-up at 1:00pm.
