Rutherford, NJ - Coming off a stellar 2024 season, the Golden Falcons did not disappoint as they opened the new season in impressive fashion, rolling to a 4–0 victory over Southern Connecticut State at Tryon Field.
The Golden Falcons (1–0) broke through just before halftime, when Louis Cole buried his first goal of the year in the forty-fifth minute off a feed from Charles Greene III to give the nationally ranked Falcons a 1–0 lead, heading into the break.
Felician wasted no time after the start of the second half, doubling the lead less than two minutes into the second period. Keiji Sugiura struck (1) from close range in the forty-seventh minute, with Erick Vargas providing the assist. From there, the Golden Falcons kept the pressure on, dictating play in the midfield and keeping Southern Connecticut pinned in their own half.
The advantage grew to three in the sixty-fourth minute, as Andreas Mortensen (1) converted an unassisted goal. Just nine minutes later, Odhran Lawlor (1) capped the scoring, finishing a pass from Samuel Macy to make it 4–0.
Though efficient in attack – scoring four times on just eight shots – Felician also stood tall defensively. Goalkeeper Mathias Kristoffersen recorded two saves to earn the shutout, while the Owls (0–1) managed ten shots but rarely threatened. The Falcons defenders posted a stellar performance, aiding in recording the first shutout of the season.
The match was played at a quick pace, with the midfield setting the tone and creating chances throughout. Both sides showed physicality as well, combining for five yellow cards.
