Slow Start Dooms Felician Men

Box Score

OAKDALE, N.Y. – Felician College never led and spent most of the contest attempting to recover from a slow start in its 65-54 non-conference men's basketball loss to host Dowling College on Saturday evening at Dowling Gymnasium. Senior guard Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, N.J.) led Felician (2-2) with 15 points.

After 12 minutes, six seconds, of action, the Golden Falcons fell behind by a 30-6 count, a run which included 18 consecutive Dowling points. Sparked by Green and classmate David Williamson (Bronx, N.Y.), the visitors were able to put a severe dent in the deficit. Green scored 10 points and Williamson five as Felician closed the half with a 23-7 spurt to trail, 37-29, at halftime.

But the Golden Falcons were held to 27-percent shooting, including 0 for 7 from three-point range, in the second half. Three minutes into the period, the Golden Lions were back ahead by 15, and pushed their edge to 54-35 at the 12:39 mark. Felician got to within an eight-point deficit when 3:49 remained, but were only able to put three more points on the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Felician was held to season lows of 31 percent from the floor and 22 percent behind the 3-point arc. Sophomore center Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J.) contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.

Dowling junior Corwin Austin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers on the night with 18 points. Teammate Darien Davis (Middle Island, N.Y.) scored 13, and Golden Lion senior Josh Malone (Deer Park, N.Y.) finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Felician begins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Concordia (N.Y.) College at 8 p.m.
