Obery Caps Explosive Night With Winning Bucket

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – An offensive rebound and lay-up by senior swingman Antoine Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) with 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation lifted Felician College to an 80-79 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium. Felician (3-2, 1-0 CACC) was playing its first conference contest of 2012-13.

The game-winning shot capped a prolific night for Obery, who finished with 31 points (one short of his career high) in 29 minutes. He shot 13-for-19 from the field, and added 12 rebounds (six offensive) and three assists for his first double-double of the season and his 19th as a collegian. He also moved to within 12 points of 1,000 for his career.

Felician trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half and 38-28 at halftime. But Obery and classmate Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) combined to score the first 13 points of period two in only 3 ½ minutes. Five ties and six more lead changes would follow in the half. As the game wound under the two-minute mark, Concordia sophomore Tshyrad Oates (Union City, N.J./The Robinson School) sank a pair of free throws on consecutive possessions to give the visitors a four-point lead.

The Clippers, still led 79-75, at the 0:49 mark, when Green canned a three-point field goal. Out of a timeout, Green gave a foul, and Concordia missed both ends of a two-shot situation. Felician rebounded with just two seconds separating the shot and game clocks, ran both down, but settled for a fadeway jumper along the left baseline by Tajric Boggs (Coram, N.Y./Longwood). Boggs' miss caromed to the opposite side to Obery, who put it back up and in for the one-point lead. Concordia called time out, but could only get off a desperation heave as time expired.

Boggs scored 14 points with five assists and Green finished with 11 points for the Golden Falcons. Felician shot 63 percent for the second half, offsetting a 34-percent effort in the opening 20 minutes. The hosts also owned a 44-33 rebounding advantage, including 17-9 on the offensive glass.

The Clippers (2-6, 0-3) put five scorers in double figures, led by 18 points and nine rebounds from senior forward Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, N.Y./Franklin K. Lane). Freshman guard Jamie Holder (Milford, N.H./Notre Dame Prep) accumulated 11 points and 10 assists.
