Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The LIU Post men's basketball team outscored Felician College, 43-11, over a 13-minute stretch of the second half to turn an 18-point deficit into an eventual 90-81 non-conference victory over the host Golden Falcons on Monday night at Job Gymnasium. LIU Post (4-3) has won four consecutive games.
Each team put four scorers in double figures. Senior swingman Antoine Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) accumulated 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, all team highs, in defeat for Felician (4-5). Classmate Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) netted 19 points, and junior Tajric Boggs (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) added 13.
Pioneer senior guard Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) came off the bench to top all scorers with 27 points. Kohler was 7 for 13 from the floor, including 3 for 6 on three-point attempts, and 10 of 11 at the foul line in 26 minutes of action. Returning all-East Coast Conference guard Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) scored 20 points with seven rebounds for the visitors.
After five early-game lead changes, Felician pulled away to build a 46-34 halftime advantage. Sophomore Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) then scored four points in a 9-3 Golden Falcon spurt to start the second period, producing their largest lead of the night, 55-37, with 17:07 to play.
Little more than five minutes of game time later, LIU Post had tied things at 59-59. The Golden Falcons went cold from the floor, and Kohler and Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) (15 points, seven rebounds) combined for 16 of the Pioneers 22 points in that stretch.
After the teams traded buckets, Kohler stayed hot, scoring the contest's next five points. The Pioneers moved ahead by eight at the 8:04 mark, and stretched their edge to 80-66 with 4:12 remaining. Felician closed to within seven points on three occasions down the stretch but could never pull back within two possessions.
Felician shot 55 percent from the field, including 53 percent from three-point range, in the game's opening 20 minutes. In the second half, those numbers fell to 32 percent overall and 16 percent from beyond the arc. Conversely, the Pioneers improved their marksmanship from 32 percent in the first half to 54 percent in the second.
The Golden Falcons were whistled for 30 personal fouls and saw four players disqualified. LIU Post attempted 44 free throws for the game, and out-scored Felician, 29-14, at the foul line.
Felician is back in action on Wednesday, when it visits New York Institute of Technology at 6 p.m. The Golden Falcons do not return home until January 2, 2013.
