Devils Use Efficient Offense To Top Felician Men

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences shot 55 percent from the floor and dished out 17 assists against 11 turnovers in its 85-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena. The Devils (8-10, 6-5 CACC) outscored Felician, 51-35, in the second half.

Both teams put four scorers in double figures, but the Golden Falcons (6-12, 4-7) had difficulty containing USciences sophomore forward Garrett Kerr (Moorestown, N.J.), who posted 31 points and 10 rebounds. Kerr made 11 of 17 field goal attempts and 9 of 11 free throws to tie for the national Division II lead with his 12th double-double of the season. Kerr's day overshadowed the efforts of Felician senior swingman Antoine Obery (Roselle, N.J.), who posted 16 points, 16 rebounds (seven offensive) and three assists in 29 minutes for his seventh double-double of 2012-13.

Felician led for the almost the entire first half. The Golden Falcons took their largest lead of the day, 29-20, with five minutes, six seconds, to play in the opening period before settling for a 38-34 halftime advantage. A three-point field goal by senior Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, N.J.) put the visitors back ahead by six with 17:41 left in regulation, but a 17-5 Devil run turned the tables and gave USciences a six-point lead. A Wes Kerr (Moorestown, N.J.) lay-up at the 13:33 mark in the midst of that spurt gave the hosts the lead they would never relinquish, 50-49.

The Golden Falcons closed to within 55-53 on a pair of David Williamson (Bronx, N.Y.) free throws with 10:33 to play, but the Devils outscored Felician, 11-3, over the next 5 ½ minutes of game action. USciences' lead never dipped below six points for the final four minutes. The Devils owned a 27-13 scoring edge at the foul line.

USciences freshman Shofolarin DaSilva (Moorestown, N.J.) (7-8 FG) came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points. Felician received 14 points from Green and 13 each from Williamson and Tajric Boggs (Coram, N.Y.). The Devils offset a 39-30 rebounding disadvantage with a 20-7 edge in points off turnovers.

With the loss and Concordia (N.Y.) College's victory over Wilmington (Del.) University, Felician fell behind Concordia in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot from CACC North Division with seven league games to play. Following three consecutive road losses, the Golden Falcons return home on Tuesday for a "Green-Out" Night against Post University at 8 p.m.
