Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior swingman Antoine Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) had a double-double by halftime and finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds as the Golden Falcons defeated visiting Post University, 71-64, in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference men's basketball action Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium. Felician (7-12, 5-7), which held its inaugural "Green-Out" Night, rolled up a 52-31 rebounding advantage on the night, including 20-9 on the offensive glass.
The Golden Falcons, who never trailed, jumped out to a 13-3 after five minutes, keyed by a pair of three-point field goals from senior guard Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder). Post (12-9, 8-6) closed to within 17-12 on consecutive baskets by Braxton Gardner (Bridgeport, Conn./Christian Heritage), but Felician followed with a 13-4 run for a game-high 14-point advantage. The hosts carried that same margin into halftime, 37-23. Obery had posted 15 points and 10 caroms by intermission.
A 14-5 run by the Eagles turned a 53-40 deficit with 13:40 to play in regulation into a three-point deficit at the 6:53 mark. Five consecutive points by Obery restored a 64-55 Felician advantage with 3:53 to go, and the hosts remained ahead by eight with 41 seconds left. The Golden Falcons then survived a shaky ending.
Post's Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash./Bothell) made three consecutive free throws after being fouled from long range, and Felician missed four in a row at the line, including two one-and-one front ends, as time wound down. But the Eagles could not connect on a three-pointer that would have closed the gap to two points, and a pair of Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) foul shots at 0:11 provided Felician the final margin.
Green (4-8 3FG) netted 14 points and Reid scored 11 with five rebounds for the Golden Falcons. Junior Ayotunde Oyeniyi (Lagos, Nigeria/Rock School [Fla.]) (4-6 FG) picked up 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Willis topped the Eagles with 17 points.
Felician defeated Post for the first time since Dec. 10, 2009, breaking a string of six straight losses to the Eagles. The Golden Falcons also tied idle Concordia (N.Y.) College for fourth place and the final playoff spot from the CACC North Division with six league games remaining.
