Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dowling College saw three players foul out in regulation before regrouping to earn a 78-74 overtime victory over host Felician College in non-conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.
Dowling senior forward Justin Alexander (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) played all 45 minutes and posted game highs of 22 points, nine rebounds and four steals. The Golden Lions (5-1) also received 18 points from senior guard Leon Taylor (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Southside).
Felician junior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) amassed 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists, all team bests. Sophomore walk-on Lamine Cooper (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) turned in 14 points and five rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench for the Golden Falcons.
The lead changed hands four times in the final four minutes of the second half. Pringley split a pair of free throws with 20.4 seconds on the clock to tie the score at 67-67, and a Golden Lion missed jumper at the other end in the closing seconds produced overtime.
Felician took the early lead in the extra session on a putback by Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic), but Dowling scored the next six points. Two Taylor foul shots gave the Golden Lions the lead for good at the 3:54 mark. With Dowling ahead by four, Felician senior Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) (11 points) was fouled while converting a lay-up with 2:25 remaining. Obery missed the free throw, and the 73-71 deficit was as close as the Golden Falcons would come the rest of the way.
Felician was 3 for 9 from the floor and 1 for 5 at the foul line in the overtime period.
Dowling picked up 26 points off of 22 Felician turnovers on the night. The Golden Falcons wasted a 46-34 rebounding advantage, including 17-9 on the offensive glass.
The contest featured seven ties and 15 lead changes. The teams were whistled for a combined 51 personal fouls, saw five players disqualified, and attempted 66 free throws.
Felician (4-5) suffered its first loss of the season when allowing fewer than 90 points.
