Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Felician College sophomore guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J.) scored a career-high 24 points, but the Golden Falcons lost to host Philadelphia University, 79-69, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.
Felician (4-6, 2-2 CACC) never trailed in the first half, leading by as many as 12 points with six minutes, 41 seconds, left in the period following three consecutive field goals by junior forward Jarryd Horsley-Fordham (Orange, N.J.). A three-pointer by Lamine Cooper (Willingboro, N.J.) allowed the Golden Falcons to carry a 40-30 edge into intermission.
But the Rams (6-3, 3-1) outscored Felician, 49-29, in period two, including 15-8 over the final six minutes. A 7-0 Philadelphia run tied the game at 47-47 with 14:47 to play, but the hosts did not assume their first lead until the 10:00 mark on a trifecta by sophomore Derek Johnson (Consohocken, Pa.). A short jump shot by Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) with 8:37 to play gave Philadelphia the advantage that it would never relinquish, 58-56.
The Rams extended to a nine-point edge with 3:45 to go, and were ahead by as many as 13 in the closing seconds.
Philadelphia's five starters played all but nine minutes of the action, and produced all 79 points. Johnson topped the Rams with 22 points and added eight rebounds and three steals. Nick Schiltzer (Pottsville, Pa.) picked up 18 points and seven boards, and Alexis (8-11 FG) finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks.
Reid shot 9 for 14 from the floor. Horsley-Fordham shot 7 for 11 and scored 14 points with nine rebounds in 25 minutes off the Golden Falcon bench, and Felician senior guard Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J.) amassed 11 points and five caroms.
Felician was 8 for 22 (36 percent) at the foul line, including 6 for 18 (33) in the decisive second half.
