Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior guard Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) matched his career high with 25 points and added seven rebounds, but the Golden Falcons fell to visiting Holy Family University, 89-72, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Felician (9-13, 6-8 CACC) saw a season-long three-game win streak come to an end.
Holy Family (14-9, 10-4) received a personal-best 34 points from junior guard Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) in winning for the eighth time in its last 10 outings. Munoz canned six three-point field goals and shot 12 for 12 at the foul line in 39 minutes, while adding six rebounds and two blocks.
The Tigers used a 19-6 first-half run to turn a four-point lead in the middle stages of the period into a 39-19 advantage with 3:44 to play. Five free throws by Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford) capped the rally. Consecutive Green three-pointers brought Felician to within an eight-point deficit before HFU went ahead, 47-33, at halftime.
The Golden Falcons never came within single digits of their guests in period two. It was 53-43 with 15:11 to play before Holy Family took full control with a 20-6 uprising over the next five-plus minutes of game time for a 24-point edge. A late surge brought Felician back to within 83-72 at the 2:10 mark, but the hosts did not score again.
Senior Angel Ayala (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) (6-9 FG, 7-8 FT) provided 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists off the bench for the Tigers, and Ezell finished with 14 points, eight boards and four helpers. Junior Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) picked up 13 points and four assists for Felician, which received nine points each from Antoine Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) (eight rebounds) and Ayotunde Oyeniyi (Lagos, Nigeria/Rock School [Fla.]).
Felician suffered through its second-worst shooting day of the season (22-66, 33 percent), and committed 22 turnovers, its third-highest total of the campaign. The Tigers owned a 48-40 rebounding advantage, including 33-20 on the defensive glass.
The teams were whistled for 58 personal fouls, including four first-half technicals, and combined for 84 free-throw attempts.
Felician fell into a tie with idle Concordia (N.Y.) College for fourth place in the CACC North Division, and the division's final playoff spot that comes with it. The Golden Falcons, who have four games remaining, conclude a three-game homestand by facing nationally-ranked Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday night. Felician will hold a fundraiser for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund as part of "Play 4 Kay" Night.
