Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After 19 lead changes in the first 34+ minutes, the Dominican (N.Y.) College men's basketball team pulled away from host Felician College to earn an 80-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the Golden Falcons on Saturday night at Job Gymnasium.
Junior guard A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) came off the Dominican bench to tally a career-high 27 points and grab eight rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Burton 7 for 9 from the field, 3 for 5 from three-point range, and 10 for 12 at the foul line.
The Chargers (11-4, 7-1 CACC), who remained 1/2 game behind Bloomfield College for first place in the CACC North Division, received 11 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots from senior forward Justin Turner (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull). Senior guard Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) paced Felician with 18 points and eight rebounds.
A lay-in by Burton gave Dominican the lead for good, 62-60, with five minutes, 47 seconds, remaining in regulation. It was the start of a string of nine straight Charger points by Burton. A three-point field goal by Dominican sophomore Justin Ringen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) gave the visitors a 71-64 edge with 2:52 to play, and Felician never got closer than a four-point deficit the rest of the way.
Dominincan led, 31-30, at halftime. After an early 5-0 Golden Falcon lead, the teams were never separated by four points for the rest of the opening period.
Ringen (5-9 FG) finished with 12 points. Sophomore guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) totaled 12 points and seven assists and junior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) recorded 11 points and nine rebounds for Felician (4-12, 2-7).
