Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Clarion University outscored Felician College, 16-5, in the final four-plus minutes of its 89-76 non-conference men's basketball victory over the Golden Falcons on Friday afternoon at Heiges Field House. The match-up, the 2014-15 season opener for both schools, was the first men's contest of the two-day Wolf's Bus Lines Classic, hosted by Shippensburg University.
Junior Aaron Johnson (Moon Township, Pa.) (8-13 FG, 4-6 3FG) recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds and classmate Darius Stevens (Gary, Ind.) added 20 points and eight rebounds for Clarion, which placed five scorers in double figures. Senior forward Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) shot 7-for-11 from the floor and topped Felician with 17 points.
The Golden Falcons trailed, 47-33 at halftime, then made up that deficit in the first 7:39 of period two. A Miavivululu three-point field goal and a lay-in by Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J.) completed a 13-0 Felician run that tied the game, 55-55. The score was even again at 62-62 with 9:06 to play in regulation, but freshman Cameron Grumley (Johnsonburg, Pa.) canned a three on the Golden Eagles' next possession, and Felician was never able to wrest away the lead.
The Golden Falcons made things difficult for Clarion as time ticked away, using consecutive Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y.) buckets to help trim an eight-point deficit to 73-71 at the 4:19 mark. Felician, however, committed four turnovers down the stretch, and Stevens went 7 for 7 at the foul line to help secure the victory for the Golden Eagles.
Clarion forced 27 turnovers while committing only 10 of their own. The Golden Eagles scored 34 points off of Felician miscues on the night.
Brandon Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) netted 15 points with four steals for Clarion, and Grumley totaled 14 points and three assists in 20 bench minutes. Felician received 11 points and four assists from senior J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J.), while junior guard Lamine Cooper (Willingboro, N.J.) amassed eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 20-9 lead with 6 ½ minutes gone by in the contest. Clarion was ahead by as much as 44-29 with 5:04 to play in the first half before settling for its 14-point halftime bulge.
Felician concludes its stay at the tournament by facing the host Raiders on Saturday at 8 p.m.
