Pringley's 30 Not Enough In Home Opener

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Nyack College took the lead for good with 11 seconds remaining, then thwarted several Felician College attempts to gain possession until time ran out of its 64-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over the host Golden Falcons on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium. The match-up marked the beginning of CACC season play for both schools, and was Felician's 2014-15 home opener.

Felician senior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) shot 10 for 16 from the floor and recorded 30 points and eight rebounds, coming two points shy of his career scoring high. Senior forward Nick Moore (Sicklerville, N.J./Camden County CC) paced a balanced Warrior attack with 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

For the game's final 11 minutes, the Golden Falcons and Warriors were never separated by more than three points, with the lead changing hands 10 times during that stretch. With 43 seconds remaining and his team trailing by one, Felician freshman Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) was fouled while attempting a three-point field goal and made two of his three foul-shot attempts.

Nyack called a pair of timeouts on its next possession before Moore was fouled while collecting an entry pass at the 0:11 mark. Moore canned both of his free throws for a 63-62 Warrior lead. Senior guard Khalid Samuels (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) then stole Felician's in-bounds pass. The Golden Falcons were forced to foul, but Samuels missed the front end of a 1-and-1 situation at 0:09, and the ball went out of bounds to the Golden Falcons.

The hosts again failed to get the ball in, this time seeing a baseball pass sail untouched across the opposite endline. Felician fouled, and Nyack's Phil Guglielmo (Annandale, Va./USNA) missed a pair. However, Moore grabbed the offensive rebound and kicked back out to Guglielmo, who was fouled again with just 4.3 ticks remaining. Guglielmo made the first shot, providing the final margin, but missed the second. The Felician sidelined pleaded for a timeout, but the Golden Falcons never gained possession of the ball, which went out of bounds back to the Warriors. Fewer than two ticks remained.

Felician sophomore Taylor Plummer (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) kept the drama alive by stealing the Nyack in-bound pass. Plummer took two dribbles, putting him barely over half-court, and was forced to let go a desperation heave, which fell short of the rim as time expired.

Samuels also finished with 14 points for Nyack (1-1, 1-0 CACC), and classmate Chris Hampton (Queens, N.Y./Princeton Day Academy) netted 10. Pringley was the only double-figure scorer for the Golden Falcons (0-3, 0-1). Senior forward Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) registered nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and Kozul also scored nine points.

Felician jumped out to a 14-3 lead after 6 ½ minutes of action, and extended to 22-7 with 11:48 left in the period. Nyack erased the entire deficit before halftime, and went into the locker roo with a 37-34 edge on Hampton's buzzer-beating three.

Felician will compete in the Bears Invitational, hosted by New York Institute of Technology, on Friday and Saturday.
