Box Score NEWARK, Del. – Junior forward Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) scored a game-high 22 points, including a key lay-up in the closing minutes, to lead the Felician College men's basketball team to a 70-67 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
Miavivululu shot 11 for 17 from the field. He added 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in 34 minutes of action to post his seventh "double-double" of the season. Freshman guard Drew Johnson (Lancaster, Pa.) came off the bench to top four Wilmington double-figure scorers with 13 points in 18 minutes.
Felician (6-17, 4-12 CACC) was ahead, 37-22, at halftime, and assumed its largest bulge of 12 points on three occasions, the last at 58-46 with exactly 10 minutes to play. But the Wildcats then embarked on a 14-3 run over the next 5:12 of game action, including six points from Shaquille Monroe-Gaskins (Philadelphia, Pa.), to pull within one.
With his team clinging to a two-point edge, Golden Falcon sophomore guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J.) fed Miavivululu in the paint. The 6-foot-7, 235-pounder dropped the ball through the net for Reid's eighth assist of the day and a 69-65 Felician lead with 1:02 to play.
Following two Herbert Dennis (Ridgely, Md.) free throws at 0:45, Reid drew a foul for the visitors with a chance to restore a two-possession edge. He converted only his second foul shot, however, and with 13 ticks remaining, Wilmington had a chance to tie. But a three-point attempt by sophomore Shai Henry (Cape May Court House, N.J.) from straight on missed off of the front rim as time wound down, and the ball ended up out of bounds with Felician gaining possession.
Both offenses operated efficiently, with Felician committing six turnovers and Wilmington just five. The Golden Falcons held the Wildcats (9-17, 5-12) to 33 percent shooting from the field in the second half. Wilmington netted the game's first six points before Felician reversed course to gain a 15-8 edge after six minutes and never trailed again.
Junior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J.) finished with 17 points for Felician, while Golden Falcon freshman guard Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del.) picked up 11. Junior guard Valentino Thompson (Tinton Falls, N.J.) scored 12 points for the Wildcats.
